Jerry Winnett began his real estate career in 1978 with Lakeway Real Estate Corporation, just as Lakeway was evolving from a quiet lake retreat into a thriving Hill Country community. Early on, he became a top producer and was soon promoted to Director of Sales, helping shape the area's growth alongside partners like Jack Nicklaus’ Golden Bear Organization—an experience that included walking the future Hills of Lakeway golf course with Nicklaus himself. In 1995, Lakeway was acquired by Hillwood, a Perot company, and Jerry was tapped to lead marketing for the remaining assets. During this time, the Live Oak, Yaupon, and Hills golf courses were sold to ClubCorp, and the final 2,000+ acres—now known as Rough Hollow—were successfully transitioned, marking the end of Hillwood’s tenure. In 1999, Jerry launched The Winnett Group, and by 2000, his firm was awarded the marketing contract for Flintrock Falls, the second Nicklaus-designed course in Lakeway. Once again, Jerry walked the land with Jack and his son Jackie Nicklaus II, bringing the project to life. The Winnett Group operated a sales office in Flintrock for a decade until every homesite was sold. Jerry graduated from Bonham High School in 1972, married his high school sweetheart in 1974, and moved to Austin to attend Texas State University, where he studied Sociology and Psychology from 1975 to 1978. Outside of real estate, he enjoys spending time with family, watching football, and saltwater fishing.
