This is covered by a special use permit from the Forrest service. There is an annual fee of less than $20 that is billed directly to the property owner. Following Ray’s death, I got in touch with the Realty Specialist who oversees these type of permits for the Flathead National Forest. The special use permit does not transfer on death so I am in the process of having it transferred to the estate. I have filed all the necessary forms and the ball is in their court. Once the permit is transferred, realistically after the current fire season, it will remain in place until the property is sold. If the property is sold prior to transfer then the new owner will need to apply for the permit. It is a straightforward process and I have the details to include a good local point of contact. The pipeline from the catch tank was repaired this summer and water is fully restored to all the modern structures. There has been no indication from the Forrest Service that there will be any interruption of the supply (they would have to physically cut it off at the source and give notification prior) while the special use permit is transferred.
