The mighty Baptism River twists and turns in various attitudes northwest of Finland Minnesota. Its personality is sometimes impatient or bursting with pride. Other times calm and contemplative. Along one of the more serene sections is 20 acres of boreal forest encompassing both shores of the river. Nestled in among those woods is an iconic Northwoods getaway - square hewn log cabin, simple layout, 20x14, loft above for sleeping, with mission-critical 5x20 screen porch attached. Tasteful clearing surrounds the cabin, punctuated by conifers framing the scene. Firepit for s’mores, storytelling, whittling, studying coals, deep and old stuff, except keep the screens in the car! Public land abuts on two sides. Nice path to the river invites moments for spring warbler identification, breezy summer strolls, crunchy fall walking, ski down to the winter’s, icy river and explore! Loop back to the cabin where all is humble, warm, protected: good for cribbage, sauteing the haul of wild foragings, a place to reconsider one’s trajectory. Current owners are happy to get the next folks going with furnishings and other necessities. Even a travel-trailer that can accommodate additional friends and family. A log sided shed protects tools, etc. By happy coincidence the neighbor’s place is also for sale if you need more space and elbow room – put together 40 acres and a neat little compound! George H Crosby Manitou State Park is just down the road, an unknown gem of MN’s state park system! Further inland is endless public land, lakes, the BWCA. The Trestle Inn is a must stop for chow. Finland is a great little town, and the Finland COOP is a throwback with everything a person could need. Come relax, realign, escape.
