There is this unwritten rule in the business world that says you should never become friends with your clients. Business is business and personal is personal, and the two paths should never cross. That rule never made sense to me. I can tell you without hesitation that this industry is all about building successful relationships. If I'm not personally invested in my client's well-being — if I can't put myself in their shoes and understand what they are going through — then I'm not giving them my all. I don't want clients who will work with just anyone. I want someone who believes in me, and the lengths in which I'm willing to go for them and for their family. If I have one regret about being a real estate agent, it's that I didn't get started sooner. I've been in this business for seventeen years, and I wish I could say it's been 30! Doing what you truly love gives you purpose, and allows you to exceed people's expectations when providing a service that's both professional and personal. But while my career as a REALTOR® defines me, I certainly cannot say that the life I lived prior was wasted. Growing up, my family owned a newspaper, the Suburban Life in the western suburbs of Chicago. For 23 years I worked for the paper, selling advertising to REALTORS® and builders.
