For over 30 years, The St. Francis House has provided warm meals, beds, and support for the homeless population in St. Johns County. To continue their vision of reducing the number of homeless individuals in the area, and to provide these individuals with the opportunity to keep their dignity and move toward a self-sufficient lifestyle, Port in the Storm was created. Port in the Storm is a program that is dedicated to helping children who have fallen through the cracks and do not have a proper support system to help guide them through life's obstacles. The building, located at 1375 Arapaho Avenue, is a safe place for youth to lay their heads and relax. Currently, there are 16 beds available for these children to take shelter each night. With the help of an amazing volunteer network, those at risk are given the chance to find their stability and to find a successful life path through Positive Youth Development Programming. The services provided with these programs include educational needs, basic life skills, basic needs, housing assistance, counseling, and medical care. Donations for this program are essential to keeping operational costs low so that funds can go directly towards supporting the needs of the homeless. Items that are always appreciated include clothing, personal hygiene products, household products, bedding, and food. Monetary donations are accepted as well.
