Can’t-Miss Breakfast Spots in the Pioneer Valley

    Aug 05, 2022

The Pioneer Valley is brimming with fantastic restaurants! This week, we wanted to take you through the valley and highlight some of the best breakfast spots. You know the ones we’re talking about, that always has a line out the door almost every weekend…

Here are some of the most popular:

Jake’s: With two locations in Northampton and Amherst, this local spot is only open for breakfast and lunch. It’s often packed with a line out the door because the locals know it’s worth the wait! The menu is on the smaller side, but they have perfected each and every item. (Don’t sleep on the hash special –– it changes daily and is always creative.)

Miss Florence Diner: This long-standing mainstay in Florence is a cute little diner in an old train car. They have been operating since 1941 and they serve up all the classic diner food you would expect.

Esselon Café: Talk about popular! I’ve never been to Esselon and there wasn’t a line –– once you’ve ordered the food is usually ready pretty quickly though. They have delicious French toast, pancakes, and a breakfast burrito that is so incredibly tasty. Another highlight about this place is that there’s indoor seating, plus outdoor seating in the gardens during the spring, fall, and summer!

The Upper Bend: This trendy bruncheonette is the perfect complement to the hip spots and shops on Turners Falls’ main drag, Avenue A. With lighter options ranging from vegan scrambles to classic morning bites, this adorable eatery is the ideal pitstop before exploring this avant garde Pioneer Valley village.

Tandem Bagel Company: This hot spot boasts five locations (in Easthampton, Northampton, Florence, West Springfield, and Hadley) and has quickly become a staple in the valley since their first store opened in Easthampton in 2012. Hot and fresh bagels are their specialty –– hence the name –– and they offer an extensive variety of breakfast bagel sandwiches.

Baked: A former glass-blowing studio overlooking the glacial potholes has since been transformed into a bakery and cafe, with indoor and outdoor seating. They have a full bakery inside offering cookies, cakes, pies, cinnamon rolls, and savory treats. The stars of the show for breakfast options are their Huevos Rancheros on homemade cornbread, eggs benedict, and the apple cinnamon Belgian waffles.
