About Susan

Professional Philosophy I specialize in residential and country property for buyers, sellers and investors, and I find a special joy in helping first time home buyers. My role is to educate, facilitate the process, and negotiate on my clients' behalf so they get the results they desire. Most of my clients come to me by referral. In appreciation, I offer my clients extra services such as complimentary "Invest in Your Home" seminars on such topics as Remodeling, Landscaping as an Investment, and Window Coverings. I love my work!Professional Background I have a long history in service professions, and I see real estate as being all about service. My background includes being director of a community health clinic in Palo Alto for five years and being a licensed marriage and family therapist in Sonoma County for ten years. Other experience includes hospice and hospital volunteer work, being development director of a private Sonoma County School, and being business manager for an educational non-profit in Menlo Park. I'm currently on the Board of Directors for a local organization, Bread for the Journey, that supports community projects through seed grants. I blend my business and organizational skills with good communication and real estate expertise to assist my clients in identifying and reaching their real estate goals.Education BA in Anthropology, Stanford University MA in Counseling, Sonoma State University Marriage, Family Therapist License Certificate, Business School Santa Rosa Junior College Real Estate License Accredited Staging Professional Personal Background A California native, I moved to Sonoma County 26 years ago; the train still ran down the middle of Sebastopol's Main Street when I chose this beautiful county as the place where I wanted to raise my family. Through the years I've been involved in various school, music, sports and community activities. I'm married to William Hazelwood, a broadcast producer and director, and have two children, Carly and Jonah, and two step-children, Kai and Kena - all between the ages of 20 & 25. My love for Sonoma County and my extensive knowledge of the area and of country living are benefits I bring to my clients.
