Every 1st and 3rd Friday the Break Room, 911 S. Kansas Ave presents live stand-up comedy. There is always a strong turn out from our local comedy community in Topeka, Lawrence, Kansas City, Salina , Manhattan and Wichita. And they book touring acts too, so don't be surprise at who might show up. And if you have ever had the itch to try a bit of stand-up yourself there is an open mic after every show. They do a few fundraisers throughout the year for local charities like the Helping Hands Humane Shelter and Community Action. The Annual Toys for Tots show is always a big success. This show holds a special place in my heart. My friend and co-worker Brad Metzger and I started it in 2011 with a competition called So U Think U R Funny. What started as 5 or 6 friends who wanted a place to practice our funny has turned in to Topeka's longest running Showcase/Open mic. I am really proud of what we have built and I appreciate Chris Schultz and the Break Room for giving local comedians a home and a place to practice our craft. I'm looking forward to watching the Entertainment Ecosystem grow in Downtown Topeka. With the new Cyrus Hotel, The Pennant right next door and HHB Barbeque, Arturo's Mexican Restaurant and other great restaurants nearby you can eat a fabulous meal, see a show, play some games all in walking distance.
