    Nov 07, 2017

Dog lovers would probably be happy taking their beloved pooches everywhere with them if it were possible. Unfortunately, the world beyond your yard can sometimes be an un-welcome place for Wags and Fluffy. In recent years, our community has become more dog friendly. There are now dog parks where your friends can socialize and play, plus even stores and restaurants that welcome dogs in certain spaces. Haven't explored any of these local hotspots? Check out list of dog friendly places in East Tennessee and make a plan and get your furry friend out of the house soon!

Here are some notable dog destinations in East Tennessee.

    Dog Parks-

Knoxville has a lot of these. We’re not known as the Scruffy City for nothing. Dogwood Park at Victor Ashe Park has a playground and water fountain in a designated off leash area, or you can walk the paved trail around the 115 acre park that includes ball fields, a fishing pond, and a children’s playground. PetSafe Downtown Dog Park is located near the old city and has a similar, but smaller, set-up. There’s a divided off leash area, one for small dogs and one for large dogs, water fountain for dogs, and convenient waste collection stations.

In Maryville, check out the PetSafe Dog Park at Pistol Creek. It’s the first dog park to open in Maryville, a community where people love their dogs. Open daily from dawn til dusk, this park has separate lots for large and small dogs, and a leash-free area. The park also has a pavilion with benches and a dog only water fountain.

In Farragut, take Fido to Founders Park at Campbell Station. This seventeen acre park is next to the Farragut branch of the Knox County Public Library and has mulch and paved walk ways, benches, grills for picnics in the pavilion, public restrooms, and art sculptures. It’s a really great “spot” for your dog to play. Pun intended.

    Restaurants With Dog Friendly Patios-

Knoxville is jam packed with great restaurants featuring dog friendly patios. Here’s a few: Downtown Grill and Brewery, Pelanchos, Chesapeakes, Sunspot, Holly's Gourmet's Market, The Tomato Head Downtown, Cool Beans, Soccer Taco, and Coolato Gelato (which has a dog gelato treat on the menu). This list is not even close to being all of them. In fact, it barely scratches the surface.

In Farragut, check out Aubrey’s, and in Maryville, don’t miss out on the simply amazing Cuban goodness at Aroma Cafe Cuban Food and Sandwiches. You can also get your dog some delicious BBQ in Maryville at Full Service Barbeque. Unless, of course, your dog doesn’t like slow cooked meats.

If you ever have questions about whether a restaurant offers a dog friendly area, give them a call first to make sure Fido is welcome.

So load the dogs up and head out for some some good times. East Tennessee has a lot of fun opportunities for you and your fur babies.
