    Nov 06, 2020

The holidays are here! Believe it or not, it’s that time of year again which can only mean one thing—it’s time to iron out your November and December plans! Whether you’re here for an extended winter vacation in your second home or you’re a full-time resident, the Outer Banks is home to plenty of festive activities you won’t want to miss. From Thanksgiving to Christmas, we’ve compiled a handy list of great holiday events you may be interested in attending!

    OBX Holiday Calendar:

    • November 25th at 11 AM: Tipsy Turkey Beer Mile presented by the OBX Running Company at the Outer Banks Brewing Station. Runners aged 21+ compete in a run-drink-run-drink-run-drink style race in quarter mile intervals and are encouraged to wear costumes. At the conclusion of the race, there will be a backyard party. Registration is $38.00 and can be made online or up to 15 minutes early as a walk-up but there are only 100 open spots!

    • November 26th: Thanksgiving Dinners and Feasts! There are many restaurants on the Outer Banks that offer a delicious Thanksgiving meal. Usually, these feasts are served as a buffet but with social distancing restrictions still in place for 2020, you can now enjoy your entire Thanksgiving meal to go in many places (with several still serving dine-in with reservations required). Some of the restaurants serving Thanksgiving dinner include Red Sky Café in Duck, Captain George’s Seafood Restaurant in Kill Devil Hills, Mako’s Beach Grille + Bar in Kill Devil Hills, Jolly Roger in Kill Devil Hills and Mulligan’s Grille in Nags Head. Many other restaurants are expected to add Thanksgiving menus—simply check their website’s for more info!

    • November 27th and November 28th: Hangin’ With Santa and Kites with Lights at the Kitty Hawk Kites at Jockey’s Ridge Crossing in Nags Head. This 2-day event is great for families! Kids have a chance to meet Santa, get their photo taken, and can hang out with his elves while trying out some classic toys! Plus you can start shopping early thanks to some awesome holiday sales.

    • November 29th – January 18th, 2021: Winter Lights at the Elizabethan Gardens will take place Tuesdays – Sundays in November and December and Fridays & Saturdays in January from 6:00pm to 9:00pm (closed December. 24th, 25th, 31st, and Jan. 1st). Kids from “one to ninety-two” will love this enchanted display of festive holiday lights. As you wander through the paths around the garden, you’ll experience the magic of a true winter wonderland with Christmas trees, holiday décor and thousands upon thousands of glowing lights. Tickets are $11 for adults, $9 for ages 6-17, and $6 for children 5 and under. Tickets can be purchased in advanced online or at the door. The final tickets of the night are sold at 8:15 PM and since this display is outside, it is subject to weather cancellations.

    • December 5th: Duck Yuletide Celebration at Duck Town Park is a great way to prepare for the holiday season. Come out to enjoy carols from the First Flight High School choir, coffee, hot cocoa and treats from local businesses and the annual lighting of the Crab Pot tree! Plus, Santa will make an appearance as he rides in on a Duck Fire Engine! Participants are asked to bring donations for the OBX SPCA.

    • December 12th: Colington Harbour Boat Parade in Colington Harbour. The Colington Yacht Club hosts this annual Christmas tradition where visitors can enjoy brightly decorated and festive boats as they circle the harbor for your viewing pleasure! At the dock, enjoy hot chocolate and cookies and a unique Christmas show on the water! Your applause will help pick the winner of the best decorated boat!
