3 Reasons to Join a Real Estate Association
As a real estate agent, one of the most important steps you can take to advance your career is join a real estate association. Just like other professional associations, real estate groups lend credibility to members, set a high bar for service and professionalism, and allow for networking and career growth. Let’s take a look at some of the reasons why this is true.
3 Reasons to join a real estate association:
Credibility: As a real estate agent, your reputation is your livelihood. Buyers and sellers want someone in their corner who they trust. Gaining credibility is something that can take years of experience, but a quick way for new entrants into real estate to do so is to join a real estate association. Many associations have standards and guidelines for trustworthiness and professionalism. Simply joining (and participating) is a quick way to show your clients you’re going to have their best interests at heart.
Networking: Just like in any career, networking is important in real estate. A solid network will lead to opportunities to grow professionally as an agent, advance your career, and gain you referrals for new clients. A network will also lend support when you need it, with advice and tips on properties in your market.
Community involvement: It’s common for associations to be active participants in their communities. After all, you live here, too. You’ll get an opportunity to change your neighborhood or city for the better, and many of those opportunities will be venues in which you can promote yourself as an agent. Everybody wins!
Which real estate associations to join
You’ve decided to join a professional real estate association. Great! Now which one, or ones, should you join? Let’s take a look at the options.
The National Association of REALTORS®: This one is a no-brainer. The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) is one of the oldest and most respected associations in the United States. Its members are the only agents who get to call themselves REALTOR®. That’s because each member agrees to a high level of ethical practice and professionalism.
In fact, our founders, Colbert Coldwell and Benjamin Banker wrote the ethical principles that became the NAR’s Code of Ethics. All REALTORS® "pledge to observe [the code's] spirit in all of their activities whether conducted personally, through associates or others, or via technological means and to conduct their business in accordance with the tenets."
The Greater Chattanooga Association of REALTORS®: With more than 2,000 members, the Chattanooga chapter of the National Association of REALTORS® is an important group for any aspiring or established agent in the Chattanooga region and North Georgia.
The Women’s Council of REALTORS®, Chattanooga Chapter: The Women’s Council of REALTORS® works to advance women as business leaders in the real estate industry and in their communities, and has a local chapter right here in Chattanooga.
The Tennessee Association of REALTORS® and River Counties Association of REALTORS® are two additional regional and local affiliates of the NAR. Local and regional chapters are important because they increase your opportunities for networking and expand your service area.
Coldwell Banker Pryor Realty's agents are known for being active members of these associations, with many serving in leadership or board positions. That’s just another reason why our REALTORS® have respected and trusted reputations in and around Chattanooga, Dayton and Spring City.
