Ribbon Cutting Celebrates the Grand Opening of Central City Park
Fontana, California – Today, May 6, the City of Fontana unveiled the completed Central City Park at the official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. Located at 8330 Cypress Ave., adjacent to the Pacific Electric Trail and Cypress Neighborhood Center, this 14.5-acre park includes one soccer field, two football fields with soccer overlays, horseshoe pits, ADA accessible playground, a .75-acre community garden, and concessions and restroom buildings.
“These high-quality fields will be a wonderful resource for community members and team sports organizations. The park will also serve as a vehicle for increasing community health and personal enrichment experiences. The Council and I are committed to ensuring that the City of Fontana has state-of-the-art recreation facilities and together we are building a vibrant and prosperous community,” said Mayor Acquanetta Warren.
With a cost of just over $14 million, the Central City Park offers horseshoe lanes available for private reservations and garden plot leases to grow plants, flowers, and vegetables. The Community Services Department will also be providing gardening and cooking classes to highlight the community garden throughout the year.
Mayor Pro-Tem, Phillip Cothran, underscored the critical need for sports facilities and community amenities. “There is a high demand for sports facilities of all types, and Central City Park will provide residents with a recreation location that enhances the sense of community closeness that is so desperately needed as we move past COVID-19.”
The City of Fontana worked diligently for several years to bring this project to completion.
“Constructing a park is a highly complex and expensive undertaking. This project was ten years in the making, and today we are thrilled to see it come to fruition,” said Council Member Jesus "Jesse" Sandoval. “Without the amazing work of Contractor - Act 1 Construction, Designer and Landscape Architect - BMLA Inc., and Project Manager - Dudek Inc., we could not have done it.”
The City of Fontana looks forward to seeing community members enjoy all the amenities. To learn more and to make reservations, please visit Recreation.Fontana.org or call (909) 349-6900.
