Taking a few simple steps can lead you down some very healthy and productive paths that may help you feel happier and more able to reach your full potential.
Here are a few ideas.
This doesn’t mean you have to get up before sunrise every morning and run a marathon, nor does it mean you have to join a gym and start pumping iron every day. But there’s a ton of great evidence to support the idea that even taking a brisk walk a few times a week, swimming a couple of laps, or doing some yoga can help get you in shape and become a much healthier version of yourself. You don’t have to invest in anything, either. Push ups are free. And you can do them anywhere.
Plus, with all the great outdoor spaces to enjoy in East Tennessee, you have no excuse not to get out and enjoy the beauty of our region. From trails and greenways in our cities to visiting the nearby Great Smoky Mountains, there are all sorts of options for exercise that are sure to invigorate you.
Read A Book-
Americans read less and less these days. Between television and the internet it can be hard for an old fashioned book to seem very appealing. Especially for young people. Set the example by finding a book, any book, that appeals to you and read it. Reading improves everything brain related. Oh, and you might learn something interesting or useful. At the very least, you’ll probably expand your vocabulary.
Visit a local library or bookstore this weekend to pick up a few good volumes. Not sure what to read? Check out this list of podcasts for book lovers. You'll be sure to find something that will interest you!
Try Something New-
Most of us have hobbies, but when was the last time you really tried something new? One sure fire way to improve yourself is to expand your horizons with a new activity you might not normally consider. Get outside your comfort zone. Think you aren't creative? Take an art lesson or attend a pottery workshop. Always had a fear of dancing? Sign up for a class. Trying new things opens you up to meeting new people and experiencing new challenges. Both are great for self improvement.
Shut It Off-
Imagine what you could do with the time you spend on your devices or watching television. Try it for a few days and see what you can come up with. You may open entire new worlds of discovery and productivity.
You're already pretty great, but there are always ways to improve. Why not give it a try this month and beyond?
