The Beginning of My Real Estate Story

    When I became a realtor, I was at the point of a rebirth.

    I had just lost everything. My house. My car. My home health company floundered
    after 2 years of success.

    But my breaking point occurred at what would seem a smaller moment. Buying
    diapers for my 18-month old boy. I remember the disapproving look from the cashier and the groans from the
    patrons in line behind me after hearing the cashier say, "Your card is denied".

    I remember being dismissed to the ATM to see what the issue with my card was.

    I had $6.21 in my bank account. There was no way my son was getting diapers that

    I remember calling my sister to ask for the umpteenth favor that week.

    Why was this happening to me? Why had I been so stupid? So arrogant? So

    I cried the entire drive to my sister's house.

    I got the money feeling 2 inches tall and went to buy diapers.

    That was the lowest I had ever been emotionally, spiritually, and financially.

    That night I realized two things: 1) I had to dig myself out of this mess, and 2) I had
    to do it quickly.

    Up to this point, 2016 was the worst year of my life.

    Thank God we had family in the area¿ Rebuilding was going to take my village's
    love and support.

    I started working as a realtor in April of 2016, and I only helped one family that

    I will always remember Peggy and Joey! They were renters living in a nearly
    uninhabitable house.

    Mold was growing in the vents. The carpets were disgusting and the landlord had
    refused to address any of the issues.

    Peggy explained how she had developed asthma as a result of living in the home
    and they were addressing the issues for their daughter's sake.

    After dealing with this, Peggy and Joey were adamant in finding a newer home
    that did not have these issues.

    We looked at several homes that were around 10 to 15 years old. Peggy became
    frustrated about the condition of the homes we looked at.

    "How can they ask for so much money when it needs so much work?"

    It seemed like highway robbery.

    Being new in the business, I reached out to my mentor Teri to provide some

    For the price point, she suggested new construction homes that were being built
    and would address their needs.

    They were clean, energy efficient and priced appropriately for them.

    I remember walking through the model homes with them and hearing the Oooooo's and awww's.

    If owning a brand new home was a possibility, we had to look at their options.

    We sat down with Josh and he walked us all through the process.

    Their loan application was taken with the preferred lender over the phone and
    ten minutes later they had their pre-approval letter.

    I remember the relief on both Joey and Peggy's faces. Peggy cried. Their daughter
    would remain in the same school district and Joey's commute was cut down by a third.

    Their goal and dream was becoming a reality. All they had to do now was wait,
    pay down some debt, and clear out their home of items they didn't need.

    We did the final walkthrough the day before closing.

    Peggy measured their daughter's room and inspected all aspects of her brand,
    new kitchen.

    Joey mentally prepared for his man-cave/gaming/music room.

    The house was perfect, and they would make it a home over the next few months.

    Peggy's family saved my life.

    They were the catalyst to get my process started. It
    took me 18 months to rebuild and I will be forever grateful to Peggy and Joey.

    Nearly seven years later, I am still helping families find their dream homes and
    continue to write their real estate stories.
