After graduating from Punahou High School he followed in his grandfather's footsteps, and volunteered to serve his country as a military officer. He attended the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, and graduated in the top 10%. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Operations Research - the application of math to business.
Upon graduation, Chad was assigned to Vandenberg Space Force Base to ensure SpaceX rocket launches were conducted safely. During his military career he earned a Master of Science in Space Systems, which gave him a deep understanding of the satellites he helped launch into space.
