    Calling All Polar Bears

On February 3-5 crowds of brave souls will sprint into the icy waters of the Chesapeake Bay for the Maryland State Police 26th Annual Maryland Special Olympics Polar Bear Plunge. Donations and goosebumps will be raised in this challenging fundraiser that has become a tradition at Sandy Point State Park. This frosty frolic supports the Special Olympics with year-round athletic training and competitions. What began as a dash for donations has evolved into a fantastic family event with food, music and festival vendors.

The Plunge at Sandy Point includes many ways for individuals or teams to join in the freezing frolic. There is a Cool Schools Plunge for teachers, coaches, or students looking for a whole school engagement activity and the Police Plunge for law enforcement, military, fire/EMS and first responders. The Corporate Plunge offers employers and co-workers a great chance to foster a true team-building experience while supporting a good cause. True Polar Bears can take part in the Super Plunge where they can raise extra money by entering the water a total of 24 time throughout the day!

Whether you dive full-on head first or just dip your ankles into the Bay, you are embraced as a Plunger and given the shirt to prove it. The in-person plunge was cancelled in 2021 due to the pandemic but participants were offered a virtual alternative – plunge at home and submit your video. Many Plungers loved the option and now it is here to stay.

Join in this year. Get wet at Sandy Point, take a virtual plunge at home or sponsor your team and cheer them on from the shore. For more information to register, volunteer or donate visit: https://plungemd.com/?c_src2=Classy_Maryland
