About Mr. Hugh Smith

  • The keys to success for a real estate agent in today’s market are to be hyper-local and customer-centric. Only a few Brokers embrace this paradigm. You’ve found one of them.
  • Being “hyper-local” is the ability to clearly and enthusiastically communicate local real estate knowledge – local knowledge of the Eastern Shore of Maryland and waterfront real estate that Buyers and Sellers just can’t Google. A “hyper-local” Real Estate Broker, like Hugh Smith, who is a native Eastern Shoreman, adds value to any real estate transaction with his sophisticated taste, high-energy, comprehensive knowledge of local real estate values, inventory, and land-use regulation, seasoned negotiating skills, and a talent for marketing.
  • Today’s Real Estate Buyer’s and Sellers expect excellent customer service. Hugh believes that the ability to listen is the essence of customer- centric. You know what you want: Hugh is a great listener. He knows that technology enhance communications skills; it doesn’t replace them. An early and enthusiastic adapter of technology, Hugh gives all his clients and customers an attentive and educated ear, rapid response, and follow-through, follow-through, follow-through.
  • Hugh is a native of the Eastern Shore – he grew up hunting ducks and geese on his family’s waterfront farm outside Easton, Maryland and spent summers sailing and fishing the waters of the Tred Avon River and Chesapeake Bay.
  • A graduate of the American University in Washington, D.C., Hugh also attended Franklin College in Lugano, Switzerland, and Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland. In 1982 Hugh and his wife Chata, also a successful local real estate agent, decided to live full-time on the eastern shore and settled down to raise a family in the “Land Of Pleasant Living”. All three of Hugh and Chata’s grown children are Country School graduates.
  • After starting his real estate career in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1979, Hugh has been a licensed Maryland Real Estate Broker since 1983. He has managed sales offices for Anderson-Stokes, Inc. and Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage and is the Co-Founder and Broker of Tred Avon Properties, LLC and Coldwell Banker Chesapeake Real Estate, LLC. Hugh has recruited, mentored, and trained many of the most successful real estate agents currently practicing on the eastern shore. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Mid-Shore Board of Realtors (MSBR), serving as its President in 2001.
  • Hugh is currently the Broker and owner of Coldwell Banker Chesapeake Real Estate, LLC which serves the residential and commercial real estate markets of Maryland’s Upper Eastern Shore including Dorchester, Talbot, Caroline, Queen Anne’s, Kent and Cecil and the Towns of Cambridge, Easton, St. Michaels, Oxford, Denton, Centreville, Chestertown, Rock Hall, Chesapeake City and Elkton.
  • Hugh’s proudest achievement is being the Founding and First President of Habitat For Humanity of Talbot County, Inc. - which has built more than 50 homes on the eastern shore for God’s People in Need. Hugh’s efforts in this regard have been recognized with a Community Service Award from the Maryland Association of Realtors (MAR).
